Lexmark International has issued a recall for approximately 43,510 units of its MS725dvn and MX725adve specialty printers due to a fire hazard. A metal part inside these printers may become dislodged, posing a potential risk of fire.

Recall Details:

The recalled printers are designed for printing on a variety of materials, including paper, vinyl signs, banners, and other plastics. The affected models, MS725dvn and MX725adve, are distinguishable by the model numbers located on the top cover and door of the printers. The MX725adve model also features a large multifunction sorter on top. The printers are primarily white in the front with black tops and sides, and the Lexmark logo is prominently displayed in green on the front of the units.

Affected Units and Remedy:

Consumers who have purchased one of these affected models are urged to stop using the printers immediately. Lexmark will provide a free repair part that snaps into place inside the printer’s rear access panel.

While Lexmark has received two reports of the printers overheating, including one incident of a fire, no injuries or significant damage have been reported. Despite this, the company is prioritizing customer safety by issuing the recall.

The recalled printers were sold online through Lexmark’s official website, as well as third-party distributors including CDW Logistics, Tech Data Product Management Inc., and Insight Direct USA Inc. The units were available for purchase between June 2018 and November 2024, with prices ranging from $1,000 to $4,200.

Importer and Manufacturer Information:

The recalled units were imported by Lexmark International Inc., based in Lexington, Kentucky, and were manufactured in China.

For consumers in Canada, an additional 4,000 units were sold and are also part of the recall.
